The project seeks to connect local yourng people with the history and heritage of Ludlow Castle through drama and film, Working with 5 teams of youngsters who each take responsibility for research, writing, performing and marketing & exhibition work and filming, the aim is to produce a promenade performance in the Castle along with an exhibition that can then be taken to community groups and schools in the area."

"The Castle Tea Room will also be open all day, and as well as our popular seasonal menu, visitors can celebrate with a special champagne afternoon tea or simply purchase a picnic bag to enjoy in the Castle grounds so they don't miss a minute of the entertainment."

Tom Till from Powis Castle Estate said "Fortunately for the Castle and for Ludlow, Lord Powis' predecessor was able to purchase the Castle in May 1811 at a time when the Government of the day had plans to pull it down and sell the stone and timber.

It is therefore with some pride that we wish to mark this landmark year by throwing open the gartes for everyone to enjoy the Castle and the activities within it. We hope everyone who can, will pay us a visit on Wednesday 18 May".

SCULPTURE EXHIBITION BY THE ARTIST ALLEN JONESR A

2093 crop

'ALLEGORY & REFIGURATION'

Saturday 26th September to Saturday 7th November

'FIGURES WAITING IN LUDLOW CASTLE'

Ludlow Castle has initiated a programme of sculpture exhibitions featuring well-known international artists. These exhibitions take place in the Inner Bailey. On the 26th of September we are very proud and excited to present work by the eminent artist, Allen Jones.

Allen Jones is one of Britain's most distinghuised artists from the pioneering Pop Movement. His painting and sculpture are in many importnat international collections, including the Tate Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and many European museums. He has public sculptures in London, Zurich, Hong Kong and Shanghi, and was a Trustee of the British Museum from 1990 - 1999, also elected as a Royal Academician in 1986.

Jones was orginally known as a painter of highly sophisticated and brilliantly coloured canvases with a dynamic linking between the abstract and figuration. However, over time he has made a shift from the occasional sculptural form appearing in his painting, to sculpture that uses paint to help translate its form.

In this exhibition we are showing a selection of his extraordinary 'Mannequin Sculptures' that have manifested themselves throughout his career. These pieces have never been shown as a set of work before. The artist is very interested in this concept.
