Introduction

Welcome to Ludlow Castle.

Castle House Lodgings, our three self-catering short break apartments, in Castle House are on the first and second floors. This accommodation is unfortunately not suitable for wheelchair users as we are unable to install lifts due to the Scheduled Ancient Monument and Grade 1 Listed status of the building.

Train arrival - Ludlow has a main line railway station, which is approximately half a mile from the accommodation and is an uphill walk to the town centre. T: 01584 877090.

Castle House Lodgings are situated in the town centre, immediately off Castle Square. The nearest Public Car Park is in the square and 200 yards from the Lodgings.

The Prince Arthur & Catherine of Aragon Apartment and The Sir Henry Sidney Apartment are both on the first floor which is accessed by a flight of 16 stairs, which are carpeted and have a handrail.

The Prince Arthur Apartment also has an internal flight of 9 stairs, again carpeted and with a handrail.

The Comus Apartment is on the second floor which has a further 13 stairs from the first floor landing, these are also carpeted and with a handrail.

These apartments are not suitable for wheel chair users but are for ambulant disabled.

There is no hearing loop installed within the apartments but large print information can be made available on request. We do not have any staff who can “sign” on site.

For those with a visual impairment large print information can be made available and we suggest a fully sighted companion may be advisable.

Pre- arrival delivery of provisions: we can receive grocery deliveries on behalf of our guests, on the condition that we will not accept responsibility for errors within the order.

Arrival and Car Parking Facilities

Each apartment has ONE designated car parking space, with rear access once the car is parked. There is also ONE space that can be reserved for a disabled driver’s vehicle.

The nearest Pay and Display car parking is 250 yards away, and the town centre also has on street metered car parking.

The car parking area is clearly signed for guests.

The car park surface is gravel, with no barriers or kerbs and all on a level.

The external approach to the entrance of the Lodgings from the car parking area is 20 yards via a gravel pathway, 1.40m wide, and is on a slight gradient with no steps or ramps.
This approach is well lit after dark.

Pre-Arrival:
All guests will have been given a mobile telephone number as a contact point in case of delays.

On Arrival:
All guests are met by a member of staff, who can assist with luggage.

The main entrance to Castle House Lodgings has one step and a ramp is available when required.

Main Entrance & Reception

All guests are met on arrival by a member of staff and shown through the main entrance, double leaf manual doors, where there is one step (a ramp is available if required). The entrance is well lit by natural daylight and by a central ceiling light after dark and has a coir matted area immediately inside the front door.

The internal entrance to the apartments has a coded entry phone, with visual display, and guests are provided with two sets of keys for each apartment. Extra sets of keys can be provided on request.

The Master Bedroom
this is off the sitting room going down 6 stairs, which are carpeted and with a handrail. The door width is 905mm. The décor is in neutral colours and the room is carpeted. The room is well lit by natural daylight and by general ambient lighting after dark. There are two standard height single beds, which can be zip linked to form a king size on request.

Duvets on the beds, extra blankets provided.
There are no mobility provisions in this room.
TV and telephone are in the sitting room.
Kettle and fridge (no mini bar) are in the kitchen.
Hairdryer provided.

No smoking permitted.
No pets permitted.

Bedroom 2
this is on the level with the sitting room.
The door width is 750mm.
Details as for the Master bedroom except the two single beds cannot be zip linked together.

This large bathroom has a free standing roll-topped claw-footed bath, with mixer taps, and a separate walk- in shower. The hand basin has hot and cold taps.

The room is well lit by natural daylight and by good ambient lighting after dark. There is an over mirror light above the hand basin.
The unobstructed floor space is 9.4 square metres.
The walls are a sky blue colour painted finish and the floor is sealed slate tiles.

The Sir Henry Sidney:

ATTRACTIONS - (Ludlow Castle)

Castle House Lodgings are situated within the curtain wall of Ludlow Castle, an Ancient Monument site.

The Castle is an outdoor site and a ruin, which is accessed via a cobbled pathway (Castle staff are always on hand to assist wheelchair users over this entrance area). The grounds are either gravel, shingle or grass surfaces and suitable for wheelchairs. The towers and viewing platforms are inaccessible to wheelchair users.

There is one wheelchair on site for use by visitors.

Service and pet dogs are allowed into the grounds.

The Castle has printed literature for sale (none in large print). Information boards around the grounds are clear and pictorial.
An audio guide is available for hire (English only), duration approximately one hour.

There are picnic tables and benches within the grounds.

Disabled toilet facilities are accessible via a ramp in the Gift Shop.

The Castle Tea Room is fully accessible and has disabled and nappy changing facilities.

The Ludlow Visitor Information Centre details are included.

The Lodgings are a NO SMOKING property throughout.
No naked flames or candles are allowed.

Service and pet dogs are welcomed in The Sir Henry Sidney Apartment. A dog bowl is provided.

Ludlow Castle is open daily and our staff are always on hand to assist guests during opening hours. The on-call emergency number is then available after hours.
