Medieval Living History & Camp – Summer of History at Ludlow Castle

Available
29 Aug, 2026
31 Aug, 2026

The Beaufort Companye Returns to Ludlow Castle!

Get ready for an unforgettable weekend as the Beaufort Companye returns to Ludlow Castle – bigger, bolder, and more action-packed than ever before!

Step back in time and immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, and excitement of the medieval world.

Across three thrilling days, the castle will come alive with bustling encampments, skilled craftsmen, authentic armour displays, and spectacular battle re-enactments that will captivate visitors of all ages.

Each day kicks off with the dramatic Bills & Bows drill, followed by a lively march through town. Throughout the day, enjoy an exciting programme of events including fascinating talks on medieval costume and manners, engaging combat displays, and the ever-popular, fast-paced “War of the Roses in 30 Minutes” – a fun and entertaining highlight for the whole family!

Daily timetable

10.30am Bills & Bows drill including a short march through Ludlow Town

11.30am Archery Demonstrations

12.00noon Costume and manners talk. How to tell your nobility from the peasantry…..

2.00pm Combat display

4.00pm The War of the Roses in 30 minutes

Explore the living history areas, where you can discover traditional crafts and trades of the medieval period, and get up close to the weapons and armour of the age – including the legendary longbow, brought to life by passionate and knowledgeable reenactors.

As part of the displays, there will also be demonstrations involving gunfire to showcase the evolving weaponry of the period.

These can be loud, and visitors who may be sensitive to noise may wish to avoid certain demonstrations.

Best of all, all this incredible entertainment is included with your standard Castle admission.

For those eager to get involved, why not try your hand at archery? For just £4 (6 arrows), you can learn the skills of a medieval archer with the expert Bowmen of Caradoc. A limited number of longbows will also be available for use at £5 — a truly authentic experience not to be missed!

With even more to see, do, and discover this year, the return of the Beaufort Companye promises an action-packed, fun-filled weekend for the entire family at Ludlow Castle.
