Over the winter we took the opportunity to fully refurbish the Prince Arthur & Catherine of Aragon apartment in Castle House. This 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom self-catering property is a favourite amongst our guests, having unrivalled views of the castle gardens, the Pendover tower and rolling countryside to the Shropshire hills beyond. Undertaking a project like this in the vicinity of historic monument takes care, consideration, and attention to detail. It was also important that we used locally sourced materials and suppliers where possible.
Ludlow Castle’s General Manager – Gemma England, says;
“It’s been a pleasure to plan and oversee the refurbishment of this special apartment within Castle House. Our main goal was to create a relaxed and luxurious space where you can switch off and unwind within this beautiful, historic setting and enjoy all Ludlow has to offer right on your doorstep.
You will find beautiful cotton linen and the softest towels, plush soft furnishings and quality solid oak furniture, together with all the amenities one would expect. We provide herbal remedy luxury toiletries, and you will be welcomed with a hamper of local goodies from our award winning Deli – Broad Bean and a loaf of freshly baked Soda bread made here on site in our café/restaurant; Chapter 66. You can even order one to take home with you!”
Skilled Tradespeople
We have a wealth of skilled craftspeople in Shropshire, and Ludlow in particular.
Rich & Chris from Absolute Decorating carried out the complete renovation including kitchen and bathroom fitting. Fun fact – the bathroom of this apartment sits within The Beacon Tower – one of the original towers in the castle wall. Rich says;
“Once again we thoroughly enjoyed renovating another of the castle large suites after completing the stunning Beacon Rooms at the end of last year. It’s extremely exciting to see the finishing works on such an iconic, heritage building – it’s the pinnacle of job satisfaction and we are proud to be part of the team involved.”
The skilled team of contractors who worked on this renovation also included;
- Jason Stokes Home Flooring
- Kelvin from Woodhouse Electrical
- Grange Heating Services
- ASE Bathrooms
Finishing Touches
Choosing luxury and high-quality furnishings was paramount in this renovation. The Ludlow Curtain Company helped us choose beautiful drapes that complemented spaces perfectly. They custom made all curtains, blinds, cushions and upholstered master headboard, providing expert advice on fabric and design.
Velvet Fern Home, a stone’s throw from the castle across the market square, inspired us with their beautiful home accessories and lighting – which you will find across the apartment.
